He was born on January 7, 1944 in Tyronza, AR and was raised in Marked Tree, AR, the next to youngest of six children born to Denver and Tressie Fraley.
He graduated Valedictorian at Marked Tree High School in 1963 where he was also a member of the National Honor Society and in the Student Council as Senior Class Reporter as well as an active member of the Library Club. He won a full college scholarship and attended Arkansas State College, (now University) where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics in 1967. While at Arkansas State he was a member of the Army ROTC, The Scabbard and Blade - ROTC Honor Fraternity, Kappa Mu Epsilon Math Fraternity and the Young Republicans Club.
After college, he was hired on at NASA and began working at the Johnson Space Center as an Aerospace Engineer. There, he had a long and distinguished career beginning with project Apollo and continuing through the Space Shuttle Program, where he mentored many younger engineers and accumulated numerous accolades during five decades of service at the Johnson Space Center.
He enjoyed History, classic Science Fiction and Horror Movies and books, country as well as fifties and sixties popular music. He enjoyed both college and professional football, and was an avid fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks and the New York Giants from childhood. He also was a fan of major league baseball and his lifelong support for the San Francisco Giants never wavered. He also enjoyed breakfast foods, burgers, sweets, particularly anything chocolate and lots and lots of coffee.
He had a great and dry sense of humor. He had a way of making anyone laugh and almost any situation with a quick, dry off the cuff remark and his signature grin. He had a good heart and always thought of others.
He will be sadly missed by his wife: Linda Fraley, son Johnathan and his wife Carrie, daughter Elizabeth, grandchildren Aidan and Katelyn, brother Darrell and his wife Linda, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Denver and Tressie Fraley, brother, Harold (Buddy) and also sisters Louise, Jeanetta, and Reba.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 28, 2021 3:00 PM at the Settegast-Kopf Co at Sugar Creek Funeral Home 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, TX 77478. Reception to follow.
