Barbara Smith, 77, of Houston , died on May 5, 2017 peacefully at Memorial Hermann Hospital with her family by her side. She was born April 8, 1940 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Ralph and Gladys Miller. She was the second of five children. After graduating from Northwest Classen High School in 1958, she met and married Ronald Smith. They had two children Bruce and Terri. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Gladys and brother Butch Miller. Barbara is survived by her son Bruce (Michelle) Smith; daughter Theresa (Danny) Zalta; granddaughter Allison Smith; sister Jerry Ventress; brother Stan (Omega) Miller; brother Rick (SueAnn) Miller and lots of nieces and nephews. When Barbara wasn’t taking care of her family including all her cats, she was a very artistic person. She has dabbled in ceramics, porcelain, all canvas painting (which most family members have at least 1 of her paintings), doll making , and her last love was jewelry. She met every Friday with her girlfriends and they made jewelry (which they sold at her daughters salon) and ate lunch. She would miss a lot of things but she would not give up her Friday with her friends. Her other passion was CATS. If there was a stray cat in her neighborhood it would end up at her house because she always fed them the best food twice a day. And if she saw one hanging around the house she would go get some extra food to give to them because they just might be hungry. If you ever met Barbara you would know by her laugh that she was always happy . She had a positive attitude no matter what was going on in her life. Her saying was You Can’t Let It Get You Down, Just Keep Moving !!!!
