William “Bitsy” Rose, 93, passed away peacefully on the morning of June 14th, 2021. Bitsy grew up in Suffern, NY and after serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War worked as a lineman for Orange and Rockland for 41 years. He married Joan Schultz in 1961 and together they had a daughter.
Bitsy was a lifelong volunteer firefighter and holds the position of Ex-Chief of the Tallman Fire Department. He was an honorary member of nearly every fire department in Ramapo and surrounding area as well as member of organizations such as The American Legion, Mahwah Elks and The Forty and Eight. He proudly served on countless committees, enjoyed cooking at events and acting as a judge at fireman parades for many years. Bitsy was an accomplished athlete and was inducted into the Rockland County Softball Hall of Fame in 1987. At the induction ceremony he was described as “the best hitter to ever play in
Rockland”.
Bitsy is survived by his daughter Beth Anne Rose (Linda Pappalardo); godson, Charles C. Ackerson and sister-in-law, Diane Schultz. He is predeceased by his wife, Joan; parents Peter and Eleanor Post, brother Stanley, sister Patricia Hill.
Bitsy spent his last years enjoying (and bragging about) the sunshine in Myrtle Beach, SC. He will be remembered for his service to our country and his community, his generosity to friends and family and his willingness to always lend a hand. His quiet humor and sometimes unintendedly hysterical comments will be missed tremendously.
