It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Susanne Pariot, age 50, who died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on May 28, 2024, after a short but hard-fought battle with cancer. Sue was born in Brooklyn, NY to Patrick and Loretta Fitzgerald. She was the second of three daughters, a beloved wife and adored mother. Sue loved her family, loved her friends, and loved her career.
Sue, and her husband Jon, met while they were both students at Suffern High School. They built a rich life together in Suffern, surrounded by family and friends, living at the foot of the mountains she loved, with their two children, Riley and Patrick.
Sue was a lifelong learner and deeply passionate about education. She held several degrees, including two master’s degrees from Columbia University. Sue began her career as a teacher in Ramapo Central School District, the same district where she attended school, K-12. She held various positions in the district before moving on to Pearl River to become first a principal, and more recently the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. She loved teaching and believed deeply in the potential of all students. She drew strength and joy from the accomplishments of both teachers and students alike.
Sue was also a three-sport athlete. She was an All-American lacrosse player who held scoring records at the high school and college level. She was recently inducted into the Suffern High School Hall of Fame for making all county and all section in lacrosse, field hockey and track. She was fiercely determined both on and off the field. She had a relentless nature to be successful at anything she put her mind to.
Sue loved the great outdoors and when she wasn’t watching her children play hockey, lacrosse and volleyball, she was running, hiking, skiing, and going on long walks. She will always be remembered for her contagious laugh, sharp intellect, deep kindness and compassion, and fierce determination. She will be missed deeply by all that knew her and loved her.
Sue was preceded in death by her father, Patrick. She is survived by her husband Jon, and their two children, Riley and Patrick; her mother, Loretta; sisters Kathleen and Patricia; brothers-in-law Jai, Kevin and Christopher; sisters-in-law Nicole, Stephanie and Debbie; mother-in-law Susan; father-in-law Bernie; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and her very close group of childhood friends.
A visitation will be held at Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home, in Suffern, NY on Sunday, June 2nd, 12pm-3pm and 5pm-8pm; a Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 3, at 10:30am at Sacred Heart Church, Suffern.
