He graduated from Airmont School, Suffern Jr.-Sr. High School, Wagner College and Rutgers Law School. Judge Ackerson also earned multiple graduate degrees from The University of Michigan.
He worked at the Federal Reserve for thirty-five years. Simultaneously he served the community acting on the Ramapo Planning Board (twenty-five total with five of them as Chairman), as a member of the Rockland County Planning Board (also serving as its chairman), serving as Acting Village Justice for the Village of Suffern (forty three years) and Village Justice (four years), serving as Deputy Town Attorney for the Town of Ramapo, and many years on the Airmont Cemetery Committee, in many capacities. He and his wife also served as youth leaders for the Church group. He enjoyed coaching soccer and Little League, fishing, and traveling the world where he made new friends wherever he went.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann, and his children: Lynn and Anthony Capone of Pearl River, NY along with their children, Katie, Marina and Dani; Jeanine and Dave Ullo of Orlando, FL and their children, Jake and Matt; Christine and Christopher Storako of Washington Township, NJ; Ricky of Mahwah, NJ and his daughter, Harper.
He will be remembered for his honesty and integrity.
The family will receive friends at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home on Friday, August 20, 2021 from 5 to 8 pm. Funeral Mass is Saturday , August 21, 2021 10:30a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with interment to follow at Airmont Lutheran Cemetery.
