Nilda Roman Barrera

July 12, 1929-January 27, 2024

It is with a heavy heart and great sorrow that we confirm our beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend, Nilda Barrera passed away on January 27, 2024.

She died peacefully in her sleep with family by her side at 94 years old.

As a loyal wife to husband Jim and a nurturing mother to Robert, Ronald, Richard and Carolyn, Nilda leaves a legacy of kindness, love and selflessness to all she touched.

Born to Francisco Roman and Carmen Pilar Serra, Nilda was one of 12 children raised in New York City. Nilda proudly graduated high school from Julia Richman in Manhattan. From there she worked as a secretary in the city and in the garment district in Manhattan.

Nilda is survived by her loving children and their spouses, Linda Barrera, and Luke Templin as well as her grandchildren, Alanna Barrera and Christian Templin. She is also survived by her five loving sisters, Nelva, Josephine, Betty, Diana and Roslyn. But that’s not all. Nilda has nearly two dozen nieces and nephews as well as their children. It’s no wonder Nilda was considered the matriarch of this fabulous Roman family! She will be remembered and missed forever!

A celebration of Life service will be held at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home in Suffern, NY on February 6, 2024 from 9am-12pm.

A visitation for Nilda will be held Tuesday, February 6, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, New York 10901. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, February 6, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM, 177 Route 59, Suffern, New York 10901. A burial following funeral service will occur Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Frederick Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 220 Brick Church Road, New Hempstead, New York 10977.
