Mary Catherine Rooney

Mary C. Rooney passed from this life into the arms of our Lord on March 23, 2019. Visitation will be Sunday, March 31, 2019 from 3-8pm at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, Suffern, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Monday, April 1, 2019 at Sacred Heart Church, Suffern, NY. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.

Mary was born on April 8, 1944 to Daniel and Mary (McDermott) Hassett in Manhattan, NY and proudly called the Bronx home for many years. On May 6, 1967, she married her husband of 51 years, Thomas Rooney. Together they raised three daughters, Christine, Tara and Erin.

Prior to having a family, Mary worked in the textile industry and found great satisfaction in her professional achievements. She loved working in Manhattan and enjoyed every opportunity to take in its sights and sounds. Mary was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She was a woman of great faith which she instilled in her children and shared with those around her.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Mary. She is survived by her husband, Thomas, daughters, Christine M. Rooney Hawley and husband, Lee, of Greenville, NC, Tara A. Rooney Murillo and husband, Jesus, of Friday Harbor, WA, Erin Wik and husband, Donald, of Pearl River, NY; grandchildren, Declan, Kellen, Ciara, Catherine, and Liam. Mary is also survived by her sister, Patricia Weckbaugh, of Boca Raton, FL.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the compassionate team at Kindred Hospice, especially to Patty who was always quick with a smile and made Mom laugh, Claudette, Heidi and Edith. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation.
