MAHWAH - Mary De Joie (Vita) 87, a 62 year resident of Mahwah, entered into eternal rest on October 31, 2022.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved parents, Nancy and Dominick Vita and her husband of 54 years, Anthony De Joie.
Mary is survived by her son, John De Joie, her daughters Karen De Joie and Barbara (Don) Meytrott; her sister Natalie (James) Wrynn, her brother Ralph (Joanne) Vita; her three grandchildren who adored her – Debra, Nicole and Courtney De Joie, and her nieces, Karen, Sarah and Chrissy Vita.
Mary was born in Suffern and lived there for 25 years until she married and moved to Mahwah. Mary worked in the banking industry for over 45 years and she kept her ties to Suffern, working at Provident Savings Bank and all of its various merger iterations for over 30 years before her retirement. Mary was a familiar face at the bank and a popular bank teller who always had a friendly smile, a great sense of humor and a quick wit for all of her customers who stood in long lines just for an opportunity to talk to her on their trip to the bank. Wherever she went about town, she was always stopped and engaged in conversation by one of her many customers who became her friends outside of the bank.
Mary was an animal lover, enjoyed flower gardening, reading mysteries and listening to music. Her favorite musicians covered a wide range of musical styles, including Andy Williams, Bruce Springsteen and Meatloaf! She enjoyed watching her favorite sport teams, the Jets and Mets and could never seem to master the ability to distinguish between the voices of the 3 Mets TV announcers!
A visitation for Mary will be held Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, New York 10901. A mass of christian burial will occur Friday, November 4, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 129 Lafayette Ave, Suffern, New York 10901. An interment to follow at will occur Friday, November 4, 2022 at Maryrest Cemetery, 770 Darlington Ave, Mahwah, New Jersey 07430.
