Joan was born on March 24, 1930 to the late Joseph and Anna (Battaglia) Politi in New York City, NY. The oldest of three children, she met the love of her life, Louis D. Orazio, at a dance in the Bronx in 1949 and they married in 1952. After raising four children, Joan went back to school graduating from Rockland Community College (1974) and then Mercy College, Summa Cum Laude, in 1975. She earned her Certified Financial Planner degree from the College for Financial Planning in 1979. Her career in financial planning began in 1973 at IDS, then Gary Goldberg & Company where she was the Executive Vice President until 1991, when she and two of her children founded Orazio Financial Services. She was President until her retirement in 2000. She was “Woman of the Year” in 1984 from the Rockland County Business and Professional Women’s group, on several Boards of Directors and former Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of Rockland Community College.
She is survived by her children; Joanne Orazio Tonkin, Paul Orazio (Patti), and Phyllis O. Kearsing, Louise Mason (deceased), grandchildren; Joseph (Zenaida), Brian (Maria), Patrick, Louis (Arielle), Christina, Jon, and Peter James, great-grandchildren; Emma, Eliana, Gabriella, Jane, Liana, her sister Claire P. Mysel, brother Joseph Politi (deceased) and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:15 am on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at the Church of the Presentation, 271 W. Saddle River Rd., Upper Saddle River, NJ 07458. Interment of Ashes at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nyack, NY will be private.
