Jean Gaudino, age 93 formerly of the Village of Wesley Hills, NY, passed away on the morning of January 18, 2024.
Born in Haiti, Jean graduated from the École de Médecine in Port-au-Prince Haiti, and moved to the USA in 1959, where he did his Surgical residency at Misericordia Hospital (now known as Our Lady of Mercy), Bronx NY. Following his residency, he transferred to Fordham hospital where he stayed until Fordham hospital closed. Jean then went on to Lincoln hospital in South Bronx, where he became Chief of Surgery until his retirement.
Jean was an avid music lover, loved to dance, enjoyed playing tennis and spending time with his many friends and extended family. Upon retirement, Jean spent his days with his loving wife gardening, playing tennis, building a koi pond to raise Koi, and spending time with the close-knit group of friends that they had cultivated over the years. He was a well-respected parishioner of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Spring Valley NY and because of their love of gardening Jean and his wife Mona redid the landscaping around the church property.
Jean was a man of many talents and interests. He built a large collection of Haitian art, had an extensive music collection that ranged from classic and gospel to disco and even pink Floyd. He spent considerable time establishing a Koi Pond to raise and breed Koi. Jean loved nothing more than to be at home surrounded by friends and family. He lived a full happy life and was loved by many.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mona Gaudino; his two sons Reginald and Jean-Bernard Gaudino; and his two grandchildren Gianni and Sophia Gaudino.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 26 S. Madison Ave., Spring Valley, NY 10977. Following the Funeral Service at 12:30 pm there will be a Celebration of Jean's Life at Agave Restaurant, 100 Orange Ave., Suffern, NY 10901.
