Hannah attended Freewill Baptist Church as a child and she continued to attend local churches into her adult years with her children and granddaughter.
When Hannah was 14, her father passed away, and she went to work on a Tobacco Farm to help support her mom and her 10 brothers and sisters. At the age of 18, Hannah moved to New Jersey to start a life of her own and to find a better job, where she worked in a curtain factory, and later got married and gave birth to Cynthia and Carl Askew.
As a young adult, to support her children Hannah worked 16 hours a day as a Nursing Aide at Friedwald Center and Hillcrest Nursing home, which is now Pine Valley, where she retired around the age of 62.
After her retirement she took pleasure in spending time with her granddaughter Brittany and later her grandson Hezekiah.
At the age of 92, Hannah was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and pneumonia. As her health began to decline Hannah’s strength and courage came from her love of God.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia E. Askew; and siblings, Glay Ruth Hill, Herbert Bostick, Clementine Boyd, Billy Bostick, Bernice Bowden, Esther Davis, and Phillip Bostick.
Hannah is survived by her son, Carl M. Askew and grandson, Hezekiah T. Askew of Highland, NY; granddaughter Brittany S. Askew of Spring Valley, NY; sisters Mildred Shaw of Asheboro, NC, Mayzella Almond and Gwendolyn Brown of Ellerbe, NC; nieces and friends of the family.
