Guy Malcolm Stead of Hillburn, NY, died peacefully on September 17, 2015. He was born on March 4, 1938 in Suffern, NY, to the late Malcolm H. Stead and Evelyn E. Stead. Guy was a life member of the Suffern High School Alumni Association. He served in the Military Police (U.S. Army) for six years with tours of duty in Japan and Korea, and was a life member of the National American Legion. He retired from the Town of Ramapo Police Dept. with the rank of Lieutenant after 31 years of service. He was also known as a basketball referee, track and field official, swimming/diving referee, and volleyball official over the last 35 years in Rockland and Westchester counties.
Guy is survived by his wife Margaret M. (nee O’Rourke) and his children Francis B. Stead of Wilson, NC ; Guy A. Stead of Chester, NY; Leah A. Leonard of Lebanon, TN; and Margaret A. Stead of Sloatsburg, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Blake Leonard, Garrison Leonard, James Stead and Julia Stead, as well as his brother Franklin G. Stead of Suffern, NY, and his sister, Maryanne Graham of Chester, NY, and many nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends at Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home in Suffern, NY on Sunday, September 20, 2015 between 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 7:00 – 9:00 PM. Funeral Service Monday 10am at the Funeral Home followed by a Burial at Frederick Loescher Veterans Cemetery.
