So sorry to hear of the passing of dr Cox he took care of my cousin and sister for many years . A true gentleman and kind kind soul.  His wife was so wonderful also . May god rest his soul I know god met him with open arms .  🙏🙏🙏

I will miss miss him. I always told anyone who i introduced him to, "Dr. Cox  saved my life" in 2012. 
I had 4 hospital stays last year and Dr. Cox was always there for me. 🙏💔

It was so sad to hear of the passing of Dr. Cox.  He was our family physician for 40 years.  He took care of me through thick and thin with professionalism, compassion and respect.

As a long time patient of this magnificent man, I was devastated to learn of Dr. Cox's passing, having first understood it was for medical leave.  The loss is palpable,  not to have his wisdom and understanding for consultations or see his infectious smile sitting opposite in the examining room as he asked for and responded to whatever was on my mind in annual or semi-annual visits. Joan, who worked along side him, equally solicitous it seemed of my well-being, created such a warm friendly environment. I send my deepest condolences to Joan and to the family. Dr.Cox held the kind of humanity that makes me want condolences as well, though I knew him only in the office. I'm reminded now that he actually made the effort to attend a reading of my novel when it was published. His interest in others, their lives and pursuits was indeed unusual for a busy doctor. I join so many others in saying with heartfelt pain, I will miss him greatly.


The Gerber family is shocked and saddened by the loss of George.  He was strong as an ox with a country demeanor, despite his high brow education.  A lover of life and scotch, welcoming of patients and trespassers, and always the perfect gentleman reminiscent of an idealized american patriot.  George was larger than life and a wonderful neighbor.  We only wish we had spent more time together.

Dear Mrs. Cox and Family; I am TRULY SORRY for your loss. I just found out as I was out of town. My Mom was lucky enough to have Dr. Cox as our family Dr. since the 1970’s. He was still my wife’s and my Dr. until his passing. We were lucky enough to have had examinations from him in the last several months; of course NEVER realizing it would be the last time seeing him. We  just learned of the death of one of the best doctors and one  of the nicest persons we ever met. We were always impressed with his medical knowledge and the nice way he spoke us in the office.

  Heartfelt condolences to Joan and family.

  I have been seeing Dr. Cox from the time I left my pediatrician until my retirement and relocation to Florida- some 40+ years.  Dr. Cox was a true diagnostician- he asked all the right questions playing out the medical algorithms in his head (while at the same time having a pleasant conversation with you during  the exam).  He spent more than ample time with his patients in the exam room and always followed that up with a personal summation and "next steps" discussion in his office.

Dr. Cox actively engaged with his patients, addressed every concern, and had a common sense approach to medicine.  My healthcare was a collaborative effort and I was honored to have him as my primary care physician.

Dr. Cox didn't see retirement as a viable option- I always admired how he found his calling and truly loved the work he was doing.  He made God smile and as much as I will miss seeing him is as much as God is overjoyed to have him home again.

Just found out about Dr. Cox. My Mom and Dad brought me to him when I was 15 years old and have been a patient ever since. He was a brilliant Doctor who always knew how to diagnose what ailment I had and to prescribe the fix for it. He always had time for you and never rushed you out of the office. I enjoyed talking to him about his favorite NY Giants and learned after years not to bring it up until after he took my blood pressure! Dr Cox was not only an amazing doctor, he was also mentor, coach and friend. During the height of the Covid 19 Pandemic, I was sent to Hackensack Meridian Hospital for emergency chest x-rays. my breathing was very weak and it was discovered that my diaphragm  was not working correctly due to the virus inflaming my Phrenic nerve. The hospital wanted to admit me and place on a ventilator. I said I would let them know what I would do once I spoke to my GP, Dr Cox.
On the phone, Dr Cox was already working on a game plan to connect me with Dr Benjamin Chang to figure out how to handle my 
diaphragmatic paresis. Dr Cox instructed me not to be placed on a ventilator.  His medical judgement and introduction to Dr Chang, saved my life.  Since that event almost three years ago, Dr Cox took such a personal interest in my recovery. I saw him recently on March 27 and despite his challenged lungs, he insisted on reviewing every blood test line item and discussing my go forward strategy. 
Our world has lost one of humanity's best friends.....RIP Dr Cox and my deepest condolences to Mrs. Cox and the medical team.

I only heard this past week about Dr Cox. My heart is broken. He was my Dr for 45 years. He helped me through the good and not so good years. My entire family went to Dr Cox and everyone is heartbroken. Besides being  such a wonderful Dr, he was a wonderful human being who prayed and advised me. No one will ever be able to fill his shoes. I knew Dr. Cox professionally when I was a Case Manger at Good Samaritan. I enjoyed our interactions when we worked for the betterment of his patients; he was truly from an bygone era, always taking the effort to meet and connect with all his patients. Dr. George took care of me for over 55 years.  We were both young, "whipper snappers" when our relationship began.  Aside from a knowledge of great medical wisdom, Dr. George always had time for discussions about current events and my take on what was going on in the Suffern school system. We also had time for some jokes and "witticisms" about life in general.  Over these 55 years our friendship developed and matured into a permanent bond.  Wishing Joan and the family my deep felt sympathy  over this tragic loss of a decent and terrific human being.

I had the great experience of working for Dr. Cox for three years. He was a kind, compassionate, and professional gastroenterologist. He coupled his abundant medical skills with humor and genuine interest in his patients. Working for George Cox was a pleasure. His office was a welcoming environment for his patients and his staff. We are sad to have lost such a beautiful man and friend on this side of heaven! Since my college years, I have only felt welcome, loved, cherished, and supported by "Ali's Dad" since the very first time I stepped into the Cox Home. My husband, George (Russell), distinctly remembers meeting George (Cox) when he and Ali came to see us at one of our shows in Boston over 20 years ago. What was so distinctive to my husband was the love that emanated from George's eyes and the sweet smile on his face; the way he looked into his soul; the way it seemed like George (Cox) had known him for a long, long time.  Even after 23 years, George still remembers that encounter vividly. What a blessing to have a legacy of a man who could connect with other human beings in such a loving way.

We are a couple, Louis and Suzette. Dr. Cox was the Primary Care Physician for both of us.  We will deeply miss him.  It was such a joy to come to the office.  The atmosphere was peaceful, supportive, and welcoming.  He knew his craft and performed above and beyond expectation.  We are praying for Joan, his faithful work partner, and we are praying for his family.  Praying for comfort, peace, and strength.  No physician will ever fill his shoes in our lives. 

I am so sad and so sorry to hear of Dr. Cox’s passing.   I met Dr. Cox 3 times total but I feel like I knew him from just those meetings, through Keenya, my daughter and Sharon’s (Dr. Cox’s daughter) room mate at Dartmouth, and through Sharon’s character and personality.   One need only look at the trees to know the power of the wind.   Likewise, one need only look at the lives of the people Dr. Cox touched, the community he strengthened and the family he helmed to know that he was a generous soul, a guiding light and a stalwart soldier in the army of Christ.  People mourn his passing but Heaven rejoices at his coming.   Please take comfort in knowing that the many, many seeds Dr. Cox planted in both words and deeds will bear fruit for generations to come. 

He was a healer who was concerned about the patient, not about money.  He had a very big heart for everyone and he is and will be greatly missed. I would say God bless his family but he was a blessing to everyone, especially his family. May God be with George's family to comfort and bless them through this

I just found out today that Dr. Cox passed away. I’ve been a patient of his for over 20 years.  He was the kindest and most caring person I’ve ever met. So sorry to hear this.  I met Dr. Cox several times  as my husband was a patient of his for close to 45 years.  He was a gentle, tender soul and treated us as family each time we saw him. My mother Kathleen Martineau,  Dr Cox’s patient and former high school classmate, wanted me to let his family know she is thinking of them. “George Cox was a good man” and she is sure he is settled in his mansion in heaven. Please know she and I appreciate the care he took of her (and Roger)through the years. He cared for them as people not just as patients and helped guide them through some difficult times. We are thankful to have known him.

George was the sweetest guy. He always hugged me and kissed me on the check.  Reminded me of my pastor in WVa. Who pastored my home church I grew up going to.    George was  a sweet , kind , Christian man.   Always wonderful seeing him smiling and making everyone feel loved. George will be missed on this earth but heaven has gained a sweet Angel. He is with Jesus  and we will see him again.

My childhood home was next to Dr Cox’s and he was the first doctor I remember having.

My earliest memories of Dr Cox is him coming over to our home after work for a “house call” if someone in our home was sick. He even had that iconic black medical doctors bag!

My parents have always remained in his care (over 50 years) and they were blessed to have him as their doctor and advocate. 

Dr Cox was more than a great doctor, he was a man who wore his faith on his sleeve and went to extraordinary measures for people. He was a man of deep faith and was a beloved elder at All Souls Church.

 He loved young people and supported Young Life ministries and opened his home for many events - some that my daughter Katrina attended as a high schooler. 

Dr Cox is with his Lord and Savior. That I have no doubt! I can imagine him being welcomed into heaven with the words, 'Well done good and faithful servant!'

 Dr. Cox was a great doctor but also a great teacher  from working with him for almost a year I learned so much and felt the love he had for everyone. I will remember the bear hug he gave me before I left for maternity leave and him calling my name to help him when he was having problems with his computer. I would give anything to make sure he had his coffee ready in the morning after the first patient and for him to come  take a few Oreos or Cheese Itz from my desk before going to do rounds at the hospital. It is with tears in my eyes that I send my condolences and deepest sympathy to the Cox family.  Dr. Cox was my physician for over 48 years and longer for my husband.  The senior Walkers started when he first went into practice.  When we retired, we still made the trip to Suffern to continue as his patients.
His comparison knew no bounds.  In the late 70s my father-in-law had a very serious heart condition.  On day we thought he was having another heart attack.  Dr. Cox came to the house. All turned out well, but his compassion and action was astonishing and the relief he brought the family knows no words.
I know there are many good doctors out there, but I don't think I will be able to find one with the total package again.
We are saddened for your loss, but know that he served his fellow man and community with the utmost care and dedication.
With his wife at his side the office was the most efficient, well oiled machine I have ever known.  Part of his greatness was due to her equal dedication, skills and loving compassion.

I had the pleasure and privilege of knowing George, even for a short period of 7 months,  when I joined All Souls Church in September 2022. He was one of the first persons to welcome and greet me after a service. He has such a warm and welcoming smile and was freely giving out genuine grandpa type love hugs.   I was so impressed that he was still working and practicing medicine daily and seeing patients. Retirement is not talked about in scripture and was not evident in George’s life either.   George faithfully attended and served for decades at the church he so loved.
 What an example George is  to me as a fellow practitioner and follower of Jesus…our work is not done here until we arise one day in glory and hear the words, “well done good and faithful servant”. 

Dr. George Cox and his beloved family supported me in so many of my important life events including my high school graduation and pictured here at my wedding 15 years ago.  You will be forever missed and your presence has always had an eternal impact in so many of our lives Dr. Cox!

I worked with Dr. Coz for many years at Good Sam. He was, by far, one of the kindest people I had the pleasure to work with there. His smile would light up the unit on even our worst days. He was always so caring when it came to his patients and they all loved him.  He was one of my favorite doctors to work with and I will miss him terribly. Memories crossing my mind meeting him at The Ramapo Manor Nursing Home, bringing mom to church and having him look at us with that warmth he shared with everyone, confiding with him about my own issues, visiting his beautiful home. 
My heart goes out to his wonderful family. So many people were touched by him. He will surely be missed. As you are in the arms of The Lord, you are in paradise. Say hello to Ellie from me.

We are so sorry we won’t be in town to attend the services for George, but will certainly be keeping Joan  and the family in prayer. George was a welcome, helpful, comforting presence when Steve’s mom died in 1991. He originally was not assigned to her case, but the Lord intervened because He knew what the family needed. We are so grateful for George.

I want to give my deepest sympathies to Dr. Cox's family. I became a patient of his nearly 30 years ago. He became not only my doctor but I looked up to him as a father. I lost my own father about the same time I started seeing Dr Cox. He had such compassion in his soul and I always enjoyed seeing him. He was a true believer in God and always tried to help me seek faith in Him. I just had a recent visit with him and he suggested a book to me entitled Searching for Enough. I just received it in the mail through Amazon and couldn't wait to let him know on my next visit. I just don't have the words to say how much I will miss him. How do I even choose another doctor??? 

I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Cox when I began my career at Good Sam in 1990. George was the medical director for the rehab department at the time. Always at the ready to assist with a policy or intervene on our behalf with another physician. He truly was a doctor in every sense of the word - he healed not only the body, but the heart and soul as well.  When I moved from inpatient care to home care, he was one of our greatest referral sources! A true believer and supporter of home care and of course hospice! He will be missed by many, but he ran the race well and long, he certainly earned his heavenly rest. I can hear the angels welcoming him home! My condolences to Joan and his family. Rest in peace, Dr. Cox!

Our hearts are broken. There will never be another man like Dr.Cox. Everyone will agree,he took such wonderful care of all of us,some of us for decades. Always there when we needed him. Both of you were. Not only as a Dr, but a trusted confidant. Truly beloved. All of us are richer for knowing him. We are holding you all in our hearts. ❤️

I will truly miss our chats at the office & sharing some treats you had in your desk My self  as well as my late Joan believe it or not really enjoyed our  visits over 35 years. I will him telling me get on that bicycle and ride.  God needed another flower for his garden & picked Dr. Cox. Will truly miss you!

I have only known George for a short time, but we became close friends within minutes of spending time with him. Devout doesn’t cover his zest and love for God, his family, his church, his patients and friends. He was an all in kind of man and I am honored to be his friend. I will see you soon my friend. I love you. 

Dr. Cox....the Legend....he will be sorely missed by all. We, that had the privilege of working with him, are left with endless fond, loving memories of a man who dedicated his life to the lord, his family, and his patients. Truly a life well led. Rest in peace now, Dr. Cox. ❤️

This amazing man! I had the pleasure to work alongside Dr. George Cox and his wife Joan for over 8 years, bringing him his coffee every morning plus sneak him a snack before Joan sees (love you Joan) I will always miss hearing him get mad at his computer whenever it acts up and me coming to the rescue to save him from hours of work before it deletes on him. I loved his relationship and devotion to his patients, it made me love my job 100 times more. He was always there to lend a ear and was never short on prayers. Dr. Cox and Joan made me feel more then just colleagues but a FAMILY. From Doctor to guardian angel! You will forever be missed❤️

I am so saddened by the news of Dr. Cox's passing.  He was my Dad's doctor for well over 25 years ! He was so loving and caring for my Dad, and joked with him at every visit. Once my Dad passed, I became a patient because I saw how caring and loving he was as a doctor. He always told me, not to worry, he was not retiring, he liked to keep his mind going !! He always worked so hard to find the cause of any illness, especially with my Dad. He always gave me a big hug and told me I was doing a great job caring for my Dad ! I am so grateful for his kindness, compassion and excellent medical knowledge.  I loved going to his office, it was always spotless, and I liked the friendliness of the staff, especially his wife Joan ! My heart goes out to the Cox family. You are all in my prayers. Dear Joan and Family,
I will always hold dear in my heart Dr. George Cox. He was a godly man, loving, comical a brilliant and compassionate doctor. He was so proud of his grandchildren and loved to share the latest news of their accomplishments. Dr. Cox truly valued helping patients take the best care of themselves and nurtured and honored those at the end of life.

It is with great sadness that I learn of his passing. His smile and laughter was contagious. A wonderful man, all around joy to be with.

 The world was a better place with George in it. His time here was done as God called him home.

 I love/admire/rejoice the love George gave everyone certainly including medical guidance, spiritual guidance, probably any need/want George heard well from probably everyone he met. My evidence is the fruit/love of many others for George and his family, my personal contact is probably less than 30 hours, but my confidence is crazy high in my assertions from  evidence seen in my immediate family, George's church family and some fab personal time more recently. My heart cries for the loss and soon will rejoice in his joy being with Jesus for eternity, I look forward to my next hug with George.

We are so sad to hear about Dr. Cox's passing. What a wonderful person, and an extraordinary doctor. Twelve years ago, after being treated incorrectly for seven months by another doctor, my decision to go to Dr. Cox for a second opinion was the best medical decision I have ever made. He immediately sent me for the correct tests which resulted in the proper diagnosis and the surgery needed to finally bring me relief. He has been our general practitioner ever since and we are so grateful to have known him, in both his medical capacity and for his great kindness. I don't know if we'll ever find someone like him again.  I’m sure he was welcomed directly into Heaven.  Our deepest condolences to his wonderful wife Joan, and all his family.

I am speechless, he was the most loving compassionate doctor and person I’ve had the privilege to know he cared for me for 25 yrs. He was there for me when no one wanted to be bothered with caring for someone with a long battle with pain and illness. I had only hoped he would have more time on this earth to enjoy the fruits of his labor.  As he often said retirement was a  dirty word it was only because he cared more for others than he did himself. A truly selfless person whom will be missed dearly. We are so selfish wanting more time with George whom looked to Jesus his Lord and Savior. George I know you are with our Lord and Savior at this time I rejoice in a life well lived and loved all and was loved by all. There aren’t words to describe what im feeling at this time except Joan and Family I am so sorry for your loss. It is profound the grief we all share in your loss. Gods speed George we will see you soon !

Dr Cox was a spiritual and loving doctor!  He took care of my mother for 8 years at The Willows!  He treated my mother tenderly and we will miss him!  I am certain that he is in Heaven with Jesus!  With Love, Lynne and Rusty Everson

Dear Joan, and the rest of your family, one of the nurses here at The Willows just told me Dr. George passed away. I'm so very sorry for all of you. We go back about 40 years now, and I can't stop crying. He was such a kind and gentle man. I remember going with my dad to his appointments with Dr. George and when I went for mine, he would look in his huge book of medications on his desk to see if there was something new for either one of us to take and discuss the reasons of the changes or why he thought the changes wouldn't work. 
The last week my dad was alive, Dr. George filled out the FMLA paperwork for me to stay in NY to take care of Dad, he had called hospice to come to the house to show me some other ways to make dads last few days easier. I had at first begged Dr. George to keep him in the hospital, but my dad kept barely whispering since he barely talk he wanted to be home, and Dr. George said he had to listen to his patient. 
When I first started coming to The Willows as a short-term patient, I couldn't have him as my doctor, I was told the only way that could happen was when I became a permanent resident. The first chance I was able to find a way of doing so, I did change to have him as my doctor. Every time before and after seeing him he would always spare a few minutes to talk. I always asked how his family was doing, especially you Joan. I knew how much he loved all of you. 
I also know how much he loved being a doctor. When some of my other doctors 'retired' in their 60's he said they were crazy, it was too soon to do that and that the only way he would retire was when it got to be too much for him. I know he had been involved with so many things. 
I'm going to share Dr. George's obituary with my friends, some of who might have been his patients. I don't know if I'll be able to get to the service in person, but please know I'm there with all of you in spirit.

Known Dr. Cox since I was 14. My Dad(Dr.Beers) and Dr. Paul Keating all covered for each other. His best treatment was " Hug therapy."
