Evelyn Arlene Rooney

Evelyn was born in Teaneck, NJ, on August 27, 1933 to the late Albert and Gladys (nee Hagetter) Carpentier. She was one of five children and is predeceased by her siblings Joan, Eugene, Georges, and Carole. The family resided in Dumont, NJ; Rome, NY; Chicago, IL, and Spring Valley, NY.

She and her former husband, the late Francis Rooney, created a home in Monsey, NY with their two children. Evelyn worked for an answering service, helped run the family business, and held positions in medical offices before retiring. She relocated to Pomona, NY in 1998 where she lived out her remaining years.

Evelyn's pride and joy was her family. She is predeceased by her daughter Kathleen and is survived by her son-in-law Michael Shankey of Pomona, NY, and his daughters, Meagan and Katie. She is survived by her son Kenneth Rooney of Norwich, NY, his wife Dara, their children: Neil, Margaret, Kevin and Brian, as well as four great-grandchildren. Evelyn was also loved by several nieces, nephews, their children, and her beloved dog, Meka.

She enjoyed reading, winning at Rummy Jack, and watching Jeopardy. Evelyn will forever be remembered for her warmth, humor and zest for life which will be greatly missed.

The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, September 20 from 4-6pm and 7-9pm at the Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home at 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY 10901. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 21 at 10am with interment to follow at Brick Church Cemetery in Spring Valley, NY.
