She is survived by her amazingly gifted and intelligent 22-year-old son, Dylan
Russell, whom she often referred to as her blessing. Deidre is also survived by her
loving mother, Merle Hunter; her siblings, Derrick Creighton Sr., Dorrette
Creighton, Dennis Creighton, and Peter Jackson; goddaughters, Debra Wilson and
Dyseanah William; as well as beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and extended
family. Deidre was preceded in death by her father, Sevil Jackson and adopted
mother, Ida Waugh.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Jamaica, Deidre returned to New York
where she completed her secondary education. In 1989, she proudly enlisted in the
United States Army, where she served for four years before receiving an honorable
discharge. During her service, Deidre participated in the Gulf War, where she was
commended for her courage and skill as a Medic during Desert Storm. She earned
several medals, including the Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and
the National Defense Service Medal, along with multiple ribbons and badges in
recognition of her dedicated service.
Deidre’s commitment to helping and protecting others continued after her military
service. She took an oath to serve the public once again as a member of the
Rockland County Sheriff’s Department, specifically in the Corrections Division. Her
remarkable discipline, resilience, and drive led her to rise through the ranks,
retiring as a Lieutenant after years of dedicated service.
Deidre’s strength of character, motivation, and unwavering determination inspired
countless individuals. Her legacy of service, discipline, and love for her family will
forever be cherished by all who knew her.
A visitation for Deidre will be held Monday, December 30, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, New York 10901. A funeral service will occur Monday, December 30, 2024 at 12:00 PM, 177 Route 59, Suffern, New York 10901. A burial will occur Monday, December 30, 2024 at Frederick Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 220 Brick Church Road, New Hempstead, New York 10977.
