Tyler was our very close and loving friend! He was one of us, a true member of the 9/11 COPS. He gave us our home away from home, for so many years and we miss him so very much!

We have been coming here for many years.  Not only good food and times we will remember him for always coming by and talking with us.  He had many great stories as well as jokes to tell.

Always remember his happy face greeting my son and me for a weekend breakfast. RIP 

I was fortunate enough to work for Tyler at Rhodes in City Island. He was one of the nicest bosses I have ever had. Rest In Peace Tyler. 

I humbly want to say that I didn’t know Tyler too well but from the few encounters at his restaurant I knew he was a kind soul, everyone’s friend & seemed to love life!

so nice to catch up and see him and see how well he was doing.
We introduced him to folks up that way (Ramsey, N J) and they also
loved that we did so.  Rest in peace, Tyler. You are missed.

To a good friend of 70  years. You will be missed. 

I first met Tyler in 1977 when he was a bartender with my ex-husband at the Holiday Inn in Nanuet/Spring Valley.  Due to changes in my life, I lost touch with him but so  many memories remain. He was a kind, caring, generous gentleman to his family and many friends.  I never knew his business brought him  to NY and am so saddened to learn  of his passing. My deepest condolences to his family and friends who will dearly miss him.

I will never forget the man who gave me my first job!  The man who gave me my nickname!  The man who I admired his work ethic!  So many beautiful memories of him and working at Rhodes.  The amazing father he was.  My condolences to his family and my friend, Jenny.  My brother attended the wake to give our respect to the family.  My blessings to all from Florida.  Please take care of each other!

Now he is dancing with his father and he can do this in peace.
I wish that we had had the pleasure of meeting, my father in law Cornelius Joseph Rhodes but Connor and I know him through his family and we are all blessed because of him.

My deepest condolences to the family.  Tyler was part of my family for many years.  He has always been my brother Tony’s very very best friend since childhood. Tyler was larger then life and he will be missed by many.  For those that wave good-bye with tears in their eyes from this side, others are  smiling and cheering  his  arrival at the other side.

My condolences to Tommy and the entire Rhodes family.  I met Tyler 30 years ago when Tommy and Suzie began dating. We had so much fun and shared so many great memories. We were in their wedding together and are the godparents to their son Connor. He was filled with so much energy and a never ending smile.  He will truly be missed. You were a TRUE INSPIRATION to ALL MY BOYS which will always be embedded in their memories  and Never Forgotten.   We were there the first day you opened Rhodes and met you for the first time and thought what a wonderful guy you were and  that friendship with you and your family  lasted for years!  Enjoyed your smiles, your jokes, the Chili Cookoffs, Special Hand Cut Aged Steaks and MUCH MORE, we had ALOT of GOOD TIMES TOGETHER!  You will be very much missed!!! We all met Tyler in our early 20s. I was 18. I started to work for him at the MPI, I was his cook for over 10 years, the other girls were his waitress and bartenders. His Smile could light up the room. We all learned a lot from him, we always said Tyler’s touch was gold, He was and always will the best boss we had. Our Joanne passed on the 8th of this month, and Tyler passed on Joanne’s birthday. These two people were part of our lives for over 30 years. From me and the remaining MPI girls, our hearts are heavy. He will be dearly missed by all. To his wife, daughter’s and extended family, our love and prayers go out to you. Tyler was extraordinary person. We we’re better for just knowing him. Love Dawn, Roesanna & Jeanine. Say hi to Joanne for us. Ready in peace.

I will miss our morning talks together. Our friendship is unexplainable to some and our friendship has span for more than 70 years. I love you and my heart is broken, See you on the other side my brother Tz

My sincerest condolences to the Rhode's family.  Tyler was one of the nicest persons I have ever met.  My girlfriend June and I are going to miss him very much.

Tyler my friend for 40 years. I met Tyler in the early 80s when he bought the Colden ave bar and then became the MPI. I would go by and look in to see what was going on. Tyler came out and said can I help you. I said just looking and asked when will you be done. He said in time and asked me how old I was and I said don’t worry and he laughed. Soon the MPI opened. It was the first bar I went to and my bar career began lol. He seen me and came over and asked for I. D. I gave it to him and he laughed again. I would come in thru the front door or side door only two doors. I came in thru the side door and he seen me again and asked for I. D. Again it might have been a different one can’t remember. One more laugh and never asked me to leave. We started to have a drink and our friendship began. The MPI was the best bar around between Doyle’s and sullys. I then went on the job in which he loved  Cops and firemen. I followed Tyler to city island and Rhodes North. It has been a great journey with Tyler. Everyone who came in touch with Tyler knows how much of a great person he was. I can go on and on but all of us have the same feelings about him. Tyler I am hurting and I will truly miss you. Thank you Tyler for  being a gentleman who  always gave me a big hug and warm welcome . Your unwavering support of law enforcement especially the NYPD was truly appreciated. There will never be another like you and we all were lucky to have known you . Rest easy , you earned it . To Tyler’s family I have no words that can give you comfort right now but you will always have my support

We are so sorry to hear of Tylers passing. John grew up with Tyler in the Bronx, and kept in touch with him all throughout their lives. There are so many stories and memories of the friendship that it would take forever to repeat them all. Needless to say we are so saddened by Tylers passing and we cry because he's gone, but we will always smile because he was here, and left us so many fond memories. To Doreen, Jenny, Maggie, and Erin, thank you so much for sharing him with us. May he rest in eternal peace.

No words can express our sorrow.  Doreen, Jenny, Maggie, Erin, we are broken-hearted for you and yours. You know your family was expanded to an unimaginable size by the joy and grace of Tyler, which was seen in  all of you .  
 May that joy and grace come back to you now from all of us who were blessed to share in your and T's life.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rhodes family at this time of sorrow. I remember Tyler growing up in the Bronx and as a hard working guy throughout his life. An early part of his life that stands out to me is when he worked as a delivery boy for Jerry’s Meat Market on Boston rd. He would be riding around on that big delivery bike making deliveries all over the place. From that start he just kept on working and bless him for his success in life. May he Rest In Peace.
