Catherine Harris was born on January 15, 1924 in New York, NY. Most of her life was lived, however, in the Bronx, NY where she lived until June 2016. Catherine was the third of five children born to Greek immigrant parents who had come from Mytilene, Greece.
For many years, Catherine worked as a clerk for Railway Express, then later on for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. However, most of her personal time was spent as a Christian Worker through her longtime church, The Greek Gospel Church of New York. It was there that she built friendships, served in many capacities, as well as worshipped each time the doors were open. Her church and her faith were the focal point of her life.
Although never married, Catherine was never lonely and very close to her parents, siblings, and eight nieces and nephews (and her many grand-nieces and nephews). She was known to send cards for every occasion. Inside was always written a personal note along with a small monetary gift. Throughout the years, she was known for her caring attitude, great big smile, and calm personality.
Catherine moved to an assisted living facility in Ocean Grove, NJ in June 2016 to be closer to her nephew, Timothy who for the next few years would watch over her care. When she arrived, she said she was on a “mission”—that mission was to tell everyone that God loved them! And, that is exactly what she did. Workers and residents alike came to know Catherine as the woman who would give them that great big smile along with a great big, “God bless you!”
Catherine passed from this life into the next on December 8, 2019. She was predeceased by her parents, Constantine and Aspacia, and her four siblings, Aphrodite, Procopis, George, and Paul. She is survived by her eight nieces and nephews and their children. She will be greatly missed by all.
