She was born at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood NJ on July 12, 1967 to Carlos and Eulah Rivera. She was married to William “Martin” Peterson on September 19, 1992, and they had three daughters together. Carla grew up in Mahwah, and she and her husband purchased her childhood home in which they lived and raised their growing family.
Carla graduated from Mahwah High School, class of 1985. She received a certificate in
Computerized Secretarial Sciences from The HoHoKus School of Secretarial and Medical
Sciences on April 11, 1991 and had recently begun a Bachelor of Science in Health Information
Management at Western Governors University. Carla had a career as the Health Information
Management Supervisor at Good Samaritan Hospital for 19 years.
She was a proud and active member of the Ramapough Lenape Nation. Carla had a passion for
gardening and recently developed a green thumb. She had a beautiful garden that she spent a
lot of her time taking care of, and her house was filled with many plants. She loved
hummingbirds, dragonflies, and butterflies – anything that was like a real-life fairy. She loved to
play silly games on her phone, like Pokemon Go, and watch funny videos on Youtube. Carla’s
favorite place to be was Wildwood Beach in New Jersey. She made plans every year to visit at
least once and enjoyed collecting shells from the shore. She especially enjoyed walking on the
boardwalk with her family and finding “forever places” to visit again in the future.
Carla was survived by her husband Martin, 55; daughters, Jazmine, 30, Santana, 28, and Juliana,
21; her grandchildren, Noelle, 11, Kayden, 6, Nova, 4, and Leia, 6 months old; her sister Paula
and nephews Joseph and Chase. She also had four fur-babies whom she adored, BearBear, Lady, Bean, and Coco. She was a stand-in-mother to her son-in-law, Jeremy for over 13 years and was growing relationships with her two future sons-in-law. She was a beloved sister-in-law and an auntie to many nieces and nephews whom she loved like her own children. Carla had so many more cherished family members and friends in her life; she touched the hearts of many with her radiant smile and contagious laugh.
