James R. Ryan

James Richard Ryan from Sudbury, Massachusetts and Otisfield, Maine passed away peacefully at his beloved cabin on Saturday Pond on January 19, 2024. Jim was born on January 14, 1942 in Paramus, New Jersey and spent his childhood in Baltimore, Maryland and Woodbridge, Connecticut. He was the son of the late Ellen Rosnell and Charles B. Ryan.

After graduating from Amity High School in Woodbridge, Connecticut, Jim joined the United States Marine Corps. A very proud member of the Marines, Jim served from 1960-1963 spending time in the Philippines and Camp LeJeune.

Jim is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ellen Attaliades and their daughter, Maria Ryan and Vincent Panetta, sons James A. Ryan, Steven Ryan who pre-deceased him, Patrick Ryan and Kate Jackson, Christine Attaliades, grandson and nephew Nick Attaliades Ryan and his wife Nicolle, two granddaughters Kirsti and Kristen Ryan and two great granddaughters, Layla Rose and Gabriella, his beloved kitties Simba and Nala, and many other family members and lifelong friends.

Jim will be remembered for his devotion to and support of his family and friends, having a genuine interest in everyone he met, his generous nature – always lending a helping hand, his kindness, his humor and laughter, his gift as an animal whisperer, and his appreciation for the simple things in life. He was a skilled tradesman in many fields – no project was too big or small, which significantly contributed to his family’s successful home and cabin projects in Massachusetts and Maine. He loved the outdoors and never missed a day actively working in the open air. Throughout his life his passions included traveling, working on hot rods and antique cars, collecting coins, sailing, boating, and skiing, fishing for salmon, and flying small airplanes. He had a supreme gift of gab and was well known for being a captivating storyteller about his never-ending and exciting life adventures.
