Born in Seoul, South Korea, on August 12, 1971, John grew up in Washington and graduated from Juanita High School in Kirkland, Washington in 1990. He received his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering and Music from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1994, and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1999. Since then he has worked in the biotech industry, first for Genzyme Corporation in Cambridge and Framingham, MA, and more recently for Percivia LLC in Cambridge.
John had a passion for classical music and jazz, and was an accomplished amateur musician, playing in a variety of ensembles including the Boston Civic Symphony, Wellesley Symphony Orchestra, and the Hillside Wind Quintet.
John is survived by his wife Kristin, his newborn son Aidyn, his parents; In Won and Kyong Chon, his sisters; Clara Shin and Helen Booth, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 27, at 10;00 Am at the Duckett-J.S.Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road, Rt. 20, Sudbury, MA. Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Marlborough.
