John Mason Lawson
November 17, 1940 – July 31, 2023

John Mason Lawson, 82, of Stuarts Draft, passed away on Monday, July 31st, 2023 at UVA Hospital in Charlottesville.
John was born to John K. Lawson and Helen (Hunter) Lawson on November 17th, 1940. He married Agnes (Garrett) Lawson on June 2, 1967. He worked as an industrial engineer for 35 years, retiring from Best Buy. Serving in the Army for over 20 years, John retired from the Army Reserves as a Lt. Col. John served honorably in Vietnam, receiving the Vietnam Service medal, his Parachutist badge and the National Defense medal.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his son, Philip A. Lawson; and a brother, Frank H. Lawson.
John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Agnes; his sons, Michael J. Lawson with wife, Cindy, and Robbie M. Lawson with wife, Katina, both of Waynesboro; and his grandchildren, Kyle, Ian, Garrett, Ellie and Jolene. John is also survived by a brother, Richard B. Lawson of Alabama; sisters, Kim Ullman of Arizona and Shelly Tucker of Arizona; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, August 4th at 12:00 pm at Rejoicing Life Church with Pastor Mike Lawson officiating. The committal service at Augusta Memorial Park will be officiated by Rev. William A.J. Heine of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Active Pallbearers will be Kyle Lawson, Ian Lawson, Garrett Lawson, Greg Allen, Bill Butcher and Zach DeWitt. Honorary Pallbearers will be Wayne Taylor, Dan Corey, Rick Rosano and Steve Gigliotti (AKA Superman).
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 1870 Stuarts Draft Highway, Stuarts Draft.
