Obituary of David Eldridge Monroe Sr.
Stuarts Draft: David Eldridge Monroe Sr., 82, of Stuarts Draft, went to be with his LORD and Savior on Tuesday February 19, 2013 at his residence with his family at his side. Mr. Monroe was born November 19, 1930 in Waynesboro and was a son of the late Charles Leonard and Geneva (Cash) Monroe. He served in the United States Army for 2 years, achieving the rank of Corporal. Mr. Monroe retired from Dupont after 22 years. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many who will greatly miss him. On February 16, 1953 he married Martha Ann Monroe, who preceded him in death on June 10, 2005. He is survived by a son, Senior Master Sargent, Retired, David Eldridge Monroe, Jr., and wife Carla of Cary, NC; a daughter, Kimberly Monroe Spilman and husband Butch of Stuarts Draft; three brothers, Chester Monroe of Fishersville, Kenneth “Fishy” Monroe of Fishersville, Larry Monroe of Waynesboro; a sister, Audrey Jack of Sanford, Florida; four grandchildren, Jessica Pearson and husband Nicholas, Jason Monroe, Cory Spilman, Dixie Spilman; three great-grandchildren, Reuben Monroe, Malakhi Monroe, Elyza Pearson; two sisters-in-law, Nellie Reade of Waynesboro, Frankie Broome and husband Spence of Lyndhurst; a special cousin, Lester “Tater” Brown, as well as many other beloved cousins and numerous nieces and nephews he adored. In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Monroe was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Monroe and a brother, Paul Monroe. He was an active member of Blue Ridge Chapel Church of the Brethren in Waynesboro, VA. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 11 AM at the Blue Ridge Chapel Church of the Brethren with pastors Larry Black and Gary Major officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday morning at the church from 10 until 11AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont.
