He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis A. and Florence Howarth Dixon of Hamden, CT. He is survived by his daughter Lou Ann Dixon (Thom Ryan) Ann Arbor, MI and partner Roberta Durant of Chicago and Hobe Sound.
He graduated from Hamden High School in CT, Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO and received his MBA from the University of Chicago Executive Program. He was on the Hamden State hockey team and a freshman member of the 1950 Colorado College NCAA hockey championship teams. He served four years in the Navy Air Corp during the Korean War.
His career began at Eastern Industries in Hamden, CT where he was involved in such programs as Gemini, Apollo and other flight platforms as New England and Midwestern Sales Manager. After the University of Chicago, he was Manager of Sales Analysis and Economic Forecasting at American Motors, Detroit, Marketing Manager of Clark Equipment Trailer Division, Michigan City Indiana and for ten years had his own manufacturer rep business: Dixon & Associates from the Apparel Center in Chicago. He concluded his career teaching marketing and related courses at Purdue’s Calumet and North Central Campuses for four years while doing several marketing consulting contracts.
He served on the town council in Michiana, MI, the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society and the Indiana State Seniors Golf Association headquartered in Greenwood IN. He was also President for two years of the Blank Art Center in Michigan City, IN.
He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, monitored the Herringshaw Memorial Scholarship at the University of Chicago and was a member of the Long Beach Country Club, Michigan City, IN for 32 years.
Robert was also an avid sport enthusiast especially, golf as some of you may know! He would walk most of the courses he has played, (and that was a lot!). He will be missed by so many, but we grateful he is finally at peace!
Bob appreciated all of the many social gathering throughout his life. However for this occasion, it was his wishes not to have a visitation or service. Please keep the fun, loving Bob in your memories.
