Maureen grew up in Ballyclerihan, Co. Tipperary, Ireland into a farming family. She loved the racehorses they bred and stabled, and remained interested in racing her entire life. She was the second eldest of 11 siblings. She met Jim on a blind date when he was visiting from the US and the rest is history. A year later, in 1962, they married in Ireland and then settled in New York where they raised their three daughters.
In 1974, Maureen began her career in pharmaceutical packaging working for the Howell Packaging Company in Elmira, NY. She later moved to the O’Heany Packaging Company based out of Rochester, NY. She became their top sales representative for 13 years in a row, was promoted successively, and retired as the District Sales Manager responsible for the East Coast.
In her younger years, Maureen was very active in her community in many ways. She is a past president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians-Rockland County; volunteered for many years with the March of Dimes and the Red Cross, and her local parishes; and had a lifelong interest in gardening that she shared with others. She made sure to always keep her ties to her family in Ireland strong, returning every summer for visits. After retiring, Maureen and Jim moved to Hobe Sound where she became an avid golfer, enjoyed book club with her girlfriends, and socialized with their many friends.
Maureen’s family was the center of her full life. She leaves behind her husband, Jim, her daughters Carmel Delaney (Chris) and Ann Stoudmire (Bob); grandchildren Sean Delaney (Tara), Katie Delaney, Timmy McAleese, Kevin Delaney, Shannon McAleese and Michael Delaney; and great-grandchildren Charlotte and Christopher Delaney. She will be deeply missed by her siblings Alice Collins, Tony O’Dwyer (Phylis), Renée O’Dwyer, Anne O’Dwyer, John O’Dwyer, Paul O’Dwyer (Barbara), and Nuncie O’Dwyer. She is predeceased by her beloved daughter, Joan O’Flynn, and her brothers Mike and Joe O’Dwyer, and sister Dolores O’Dwyer.
A funeral mass will held at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church, 12001 SE Federal Highway, Hobe Sound FL 33455 on Saturday, February 20 at 1:30 pm. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date in Ballyclerihan, Co. Tipperary, Ireland.
