He was born in Dayton, Ohio on March 21, 1927, a former resident of Zanesville, OH, and had been resident of Stuart since 1957.
Jack was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Navy Medical Corp in the Pacific Theatre. His last duty station was Bethesda, MD.
He graduated from Lash High School in Zanesville, OH in 1943 and from Ohio University in Athens, OH in 1949. He then graduated from Cincinnati College of Embalming in 1950. He served his funeral director’s apprenticeship at Cook and Son Funeral Home in Columbus, Ohio receiving his embalmer’s and funeral director’s licenses in 1952. Jack was a funeral director at Hillis Funeral Home in Zanesville, OH prior to moving to Stuart, FL. He was employed with Johns Funeral Home in Stuart from 1957-1983. At that time, Jack became a partner with Jack L. White and Patt Harris, changing the name of the funeral home to Wallace & White Funeral Home.
He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church for 51 years and served as an Elder. Jack was a member of the Acacia Lodge #163 F&AM of Stuart, the Amara Shrine Temple of Lake Worth, the Stuart-Jensen BPO Elks Lodge #1870, Harold Johns Post American Legion 126 of Stuart, the High Twelve Club of Stuart, the Stuart Rotary Club, and Florida Funeral Directors Association.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Laryl Kristine Spetz and her husband, Robert of Stuart, Florida; three granddaughters, Kim Willis and her husband Clinton of Fort Pierce, FL, Kate Harper and her husband Jeremy, and Kelly Dawedeit and her husband, John, all of Stuart, FL; and seven great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wives, Jane Niceswanger, Wallace and Doris Simpson Wallace; his father, Fred Thomas Wallace; mother, Crystal Ann Matthews, and his step-father, Edward Dunbar.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Aycock Funeral Home in Stuart, Florida. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Aycock Funeral Home with entombment to follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Palm City, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997.
