John James Brutvan Jr., resident of Stuart, Florida, formerly of Akron, Ohio, passed away November 22, 2020, at home. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 62 years, Marge (Margaretann Tapocsi) and his three children, John III, Janet Schuler and Heather Schneider. John was the grandfather to John J (Jamie) IV, Alexander, Laurel Schuler and R Carl Schuler, Jr. They knew Grandpa always had a project and needed helpers. Grandpa loved his projects and workers.
John was born in Cleveland, Ohio, April 22, 1937, graduated from Maple Heights High School. While working in sales for Merchant Motor Freight, he attended college at night. At the age of 27, he became Vice President of Special Commodities for Yankee Lines. Eventually he found his dream and passion buying Miller Transfer and Rigging Company. As President and CEO, John successfully grew his company from a couple of trucks to a sizeable, internationally recognized industry leader, specializing in oversize, overweight transportation. He loved the constant logistical challenges, special permits and designing new equipment. Customer service and integrity were his highest values. Under his leadership Miller Transfer won many leadership roles in many industry associations. More important to him were the many close friendships he made and valued. Everyone who knew John became a friend. While his exterior was someone who got things done, the many that know him well will miss his sense of humor, hardy laugh and his genuine concern for others. His greatest joy came in surprising those he loved with paths and advice to fulfill dreams and experiences. He gave with his heart, especially to Marge.
John loved old cars, power boating and fishing. John was president of the Quinnebog Fishing Club for 30 years. He loved going to Old Hen and Chicken Islands on Lake Erie with his buddies. His other love was his motorhomes. He and Marge and family travelled for 43 years seeing this United States, Canada and even a little of Mexico. John and Marge loved to travel and visited all six continents and many places in the world. They would reminisce about how lucky they were, how incredible their life was and the many fabulous people they had the privilege to know.
A memorial service will be held sometime in the future.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Treasure Coast Hospice.
