Jan Monroe of Hobe Sound, Florida died October 17 at Treasure Coast Hospice. She was born on December 1, 1931, in Tuscaloosa, AL. After graduation from Bradley University she began a long and fulfilling career with Florida State Department of Children and Family Services in Dade and Palm Beach Counties. She was one of the first State Social Workers to implement the program for Abused and Neglected Children. Upon retirement, Jan and her husband, Edgar, relocated to Hobe Sound, Florida, and she was able to pursue her love for travel, mahjong, reading and time spent with friends and family. She leaves behind her husband of 56 years, Edgar. Also surviving are her cousin, Col. Julian Stevenson and his wife, Karen, and extended family, Gene and Teresa Allen, Todd, Carrie, Chase and Carson Foley, and Connor and Cydney Stevenson. A private service is to be held at a later date.
