James E. Rook, 91, of Stuart, passed away May 16, 2014 at Salerno Bay Manor in Stuart. Born in Sewickley Township, PA, he moved to Stuart in 1984, coming from Burlington, NJ. He was a retired steel worker and member of the United Steelworkers Union. Jim was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and received the Good Conduct Medal; Distinguished Unit Badge; Presidential Unit Citation; European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Star; Air Medal with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters and Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a member of the Hall Bryan VFW Post 10132, Hobe Sound and former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. Survivors include his step-sons, Bill Lash (Judy) and Dave Lash (Valerie); step-daughters, Sandra Harenski (John) and Donna Harenski; brothers, Walter Rook (Sandra) and Robert Rook (Edna Mae); and sister, Vera Sam. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Rook and sister, Elizabeth Jean McConell. Memorial contributions in Jim’s name may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian St., Stuart, FL 34997. Committal Services with military honors will be at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth.
