Mae was the fifth of eight children born to Donovan and Thelma Vause Smith on December 20, 1932 in Port Salerno, FL.
She is predeceased by her husband and father of her eight children Joseph V. (Ski) Wojcieszak Sr., husband Jack G. Curry, son Joseph V. (Joey) Wojcieszak, Jr. and daughter Ika Mae Wojcieszak, granddaughter Ela Mae Wojcieszak, along with siblings Donovan Smith, Oliver Smith, Alonzo Smith, Richard Smith, and Ruth Smith Maxwell.
Survivors include sons Kim (Kathy), David (Chris), Donovan, Jerry (Lea Ann), Randy, John (Marisa), thirteen grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mae attended Pt. Salerno Elementary School and Stuart High School while growing up in Salerno. She worked at her Uncle PO Smith's Grocery, CH Hardwick’s restaurant and the C & W Fish House. She led a group of boys in the Sheriff’s Dept. School Crossing Guard Unit and worked at First Baptist Church of Stuart Pre-school.
Mae and Ski were married when he was stationed in Miami while in the U.S. Coast Guard. This began their journey relocating their growing family from Miami, to Panama City, to Galveston, TX back to Panama City, St. Petersburg, and New Smyrna Beach, FL. Ski retired after 20 years of service, they moved back home and built the house where she lived most of her 91 years.
The Veteran’s Memorial Park & Museum on Merritt Island awarded Mae a Deceased Vietnam Veteran’s Surviving Spouse Lapel Pin and Certificate signifying her sacrifice and support of Ski’s service, there were more than 100 in attendance.
Mae developed a love of crocheting Afghan blankets for family and friends over the years. She loved Pt. Salerno, her church, her many longtime friends, and most of all her family, especially those babies!
A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Pt. Salerno on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11am. Donations may be made to the Church’s Youth Group, Benevolent or Mission Funds at PO Box 398, Pt. Salerno, FL 34992.
