Born in Parma, Missouri on November 15, 1955, Herman was the first born of TL Bryant, Sr., and Louise Upchurch Bryant. He graduated from Marion High School, Marion, Indiana in 1974 and reported to Fort Knox, Kentucky, for basic training on his 19th birthday. A veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Storm, Herman served in the Army Finance Corps for 20 years and saw duty in California, Maryland, Hawaii, Kansas, Germany, Italy, Texas, Korea and North Carolina.
Upon retirement from the Army, Herman lived in Orlando, Florida, where he completed a bachelor's degree and worked as an Information Technology Specialist for nearly 10 years. He moved to Northern Virginia in 2003 and spent the next 20 years working in the IT field with the Department of Interior in Reston. He retired again on May 31, 2024.
Herman is survived by his son, Aaron Bryant (Sherry-Ann) of Sanford, Florida and son Jordan Aaron Bryant and Sherry-Ann's daughter Corrie-Ann Grant Newman; and his daughter, Adrienne Bryant of Hobe Sound, Florida and her canine fur babies — Bentlee and Bailee.
Also surviving Herman is a beloved bonus mother, Annie Bryant of Marion, Indiana; sisters Joyce Bryant Williamson (Sam) and Sara Bryant of St Louis, Missouri, and Cathy Bryant of Flint, Michigan; brothers Rusty Bryant (Felecia) of Mesquite, Texas, and Bobby Swift (Tawana) of Marion, Indiana. Herman also leaves behind a number of beloved uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Herman was preceded in death by his mother and father, as well as brothers Thurman and TL Bryant, Jr., sisters Norma Bryant and Michelle Pierce, and nephew Del-Ray Swift. Also preceding Herman was his grandmother Eliza Ayres Bryant of Essex, Missouri, with whom he lived the majority of his childhood.
Herman will be missed by his many friends and family who shared his interests in good food, movies, trivia, cars, music and politics. He will be remembered for the immense pride he took in his children and their accomplishments, a strong and unrelenting work ethic and his love for music, especially gospel, soul and jazz.
Herman's ashes will be interned in a Veterans Cemetery in Florida on a date to be determined. Information on the internment service will be shared when available. Prayers and memorials will be conducted at graveside.
