Gary Price, 82, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, passed away on June 4, 2021. Born July 23, 1938 in Atlantic City, N.J., Gary was the son of the late Robert and Gladys (Pickford) Price. Gary is survived by Judie, his wife of 59 years, his children Craig (Elizabeth), Dana, and Patrick (Amanda). Two of Gary’s children predeceased him – Christen, and Eric (survived by his wife, Kelli). Gary had ten grandchildren – Lauren, Kaitlyn, Andrew, Gary, Jared, Trevor, Riley, Paige, Emily, and Zane – and three great grandchildren, Joshua, Ryan, and Natalie. Gary is survived by his sister, Patricia and also a large, beloved extended family. He was preceded in death by his half-siblings, Lester, Robert, and Anita.
Gary grew up on the south Jersey shore, and had his first boat when he was just 10. He worked his first job as a 12-year old on the Atlantic City boardwalk. Gary played quarterback in high school, and graduated near the top of his class. He attended Lehigh University, earning a Business degree in 1961. Gary served proudly as Lehigh’s Cadet Colonel of the AFROTC, overseeing 700 cadets.
He fell in love with Judithe Truppo during college, and they married July 8, 1961.They lived in Japan for three years where Gary served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. While serving, Gary fell in love with the stock market and began selling mutual funds part time to his fellow officers.
Gary devoted his 50-year career to professional investing. He was known for his passion as a ‘stock jock’ and a ‘gold bug.’ While in management with Merrill Lynch, he became one of the youngest Vice Presidents. In 1978, he chose to follow his passions for sales and fishing when he moved his family to the Sailfish capital and opened Merrill Lynch’s first Treasure Coast office. Life in Stuart reconnected Gary to his boyhood passion for boating and sportfishing.
Gary was a generous supporter of several non-profits in Martin county. He and Judie served meals at St. Joseph’s Carpenter’s Kitchen. To honor his late children, Christen and Eric, Gary and Judie created memorial funds at The Community Foundation Martin, St Lucie.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10am (not 12pm as previously stated) on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stuart. A reception will follow.
