Francisco Rodriguez, known as Frank, was born in 1938 in Cardenas, Cuba. He was a law student at University of Havana when he married Elvira Rodriguez. In 1962, shortly after their marriage, Frank and Elvira boarded a freedom flight to Miami, Florida, to escape the communist dictatorship of Fidel Castro. Within three months after arriving in Miami, Frank and Elvira moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. Their three children — Frank, Johnny and Mirtha — were born in Indianapolis. In 1971, Frank and his family moved to Hialeah, Florida.
Frank spent the last several decades of his career working as a handyman at University of Miami, where he enjoyed fixing things and interacting with college students. In 2018, Frank and Elvira moved to Jupiter, Florida.
Frank was a simple man who enjoyed simple pleasures. Frank enjoyed hugging, dancing, latin music, cooking, parties, and telling stories. Frank will always be remembered fondly by the warm and enthusiastic way he greeted everyone who had the good fortune of knowing him.
Frank passed away in his sleep at age 86 on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Frank was predeceased by his parents and his son Johnny. Frank is survived by his wife of 60+ years, his son Frank and daughter-in-law Kellyn, his daughter Mirtha and son-in-law JC Churilla, and his grandsons Dillon, Riley, Cameron, and Tyler.
