Mrs. Walker is survived by her children, Stephen (Pamela) of Jupiter, FL; Cynthia of Stuart, FL; Katherine of Jensen Beach, FL; David (Rachel) of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, John Patrick (Fiona) of Orlando, FL; Erica Dawn (Brian) of Orlando, FL; Jessica Renee of Richmond, VA; James Adam of Jupiter, FL; Joshua David of Chesapeake, VA; and great grandchildren, Griffin, Liam, and Rowan. She is preceded in death by her husband Hugh J. Walker, owner of Smith’s Drugstore in Williamsport, PA, her sister, Emma L. Belcher, her brother, Hartley J. Lloyd, and her special dog, Haley Belle.
Esther was born in Williamsport, PA to Hartley J. and Emma Y. Lloyd in 1921. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1942 with a degree in Secondary Education/German and Social Studies. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Esther also held a Master’s Degree from Mansfield State University in Special Education. She taught in the Ridgway, Montgomery, and Williamsport School Districts. She was a life-long learner. Esther lived the majority of her life in Williamsport, PA, where she was active in many church, civic, educational, and community organizations. She also enjoyed cooking and entertaining, and spending time with her family and friends.
Mrs. Walker relocated to Florida in 1987 and became a member of the Jensen Beach Garden Club, the Jensen Beach Women’s Club, Eastern Star, and Redeemer Lutheran Church of Stuart, FL. She also volunteered at Jensen Beach Elementary School. She loved gardening and flowers and was an avid card player, especially enjoying bridge and pinochle. Esther’s family and friends will always remember her as a selfless, kind, caring, intelligent woman, who loved them all unconditionally.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church located at 2450 SE Ocean Blvd in Stuart, FL, with the funeral service to begin at 12:00 pm. Pastor David Albers will be officiating. A reception in Albrecht Hall will follow immediately after the service. Interment will be held at a later date at Wildwood Cemetery in Williamsport, PA.
