Ellen was born in Farmingdale, New York in 1935. She married George Holzmacher in 1954 and they moved to Amityville, New York. Raising eight children was her full time job. Ellen was a faithful member of several Long Island churches. She worked with Pioneer Girls, VBS, and was involved in Women’s bible studies. Ellen also served as president of the Christian Women’s Fellowship for many years. Prior to her move to Florida, Ellen was serving on the welcome committee at Living Faith Christian Church in Farmingdale.
She volunteered at the Amityville Historical Society for over 10 years, as well as helped run the area polls on election days.
Ellen moved to the Treasure Coast in 2013 to be close to family. She quickly became involved in serving at First Baptist Jensen Beach, where she welcomed at Sunday morning worship and was very involved in her Life Groups.
She is survived by her children, Jo-Ellen (Randy) Bassett of Laconia, NH; April (Greg) Harris of Auburn, AL; George (Jeanie) Holzmacher of Port St. Lucie, FL; Lee (Debbie) Holzmacher of Forestdale, MA; Marcy (Lou) Rausch of Port St. Lucie; Jed (Rosi) Holzmacher of West Lawn, PA; Trudy (Robert) Mitchell of Stuart, FL; and Matt (Mandy) Holzmacher of Chattanooga, TN; thirty-five grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Holzmacher was predeceased by her husband, George Holzmacher, her parents, Archibald and Mildred Voorhes; and siblings Ida Maul, Millia Mosley, Shirley Cook, “Bud” Voorhes, and Dale Voorhes.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 11:00AM at Tropical Farms Baptist Church in Stuart with a reception to follow.
