Eleanor Mangan Chambers passed away on July 6th in Hobe Sound, Florida. Born to George and Mabel Mangan on June 29, 1923 in Lowell, Massachusetts, she was 98. She was preceded in death by her beloved brothers George Mangan Jr., Edward Mangan, and Thomas Mangan.
Eleanor graduated from Lowell State Teachers College in 1945, and loved teaching first and second grade for the Wrentham Public Schools for over 25 years. She had a special affinity for children, and in her later years volunteered in the Sunday pre-school at her church. Eleanor loved good books, the gospel songs of Elvis Presley, bible studies , Broadway musical scores, ceramics and craft projects.
She married her husband Edward Chambers, her high school sweetheart in 1944, and they were happily married for 60 years.They raised four children, living in the South after WW II, before settling in Walpole, MA where they lived for 25 years. Eleanor was a loyal first mate on all of the boats that they had through the years, with all of the great trips to Martha’s Vineyard, Block Island, and Newport, among others. In 1986 they moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Eleanor moved to Traditions when Ed passed away in 2004.
Eleanor always lived life with a positive outlook, a smiling face, and savored every moment of her life.
Eleanor is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Chambers Toguchi (husband Roger) of Foster City, CA; Judy Chambers Beck (husband Charles) of Los Angeles; Edward Allen Chambers Jr. (wife Zuleika) of Palm City, FL; and David Chambers (wife Suzanne) of Bristol RI. She is also proudly survived by six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Eleanor will be cremated, and will join her husband in Arlington National Cemetery after a memorial service there. Any donations in her name can be made to the DAV (DisabledAmerican Veterans) or the American Red Cross.
