Born in Chicago, Illinois, Mr. Steward had previously lived in Oak Forest, IL before moving to the Treasure Coast area in 1980.
He graduated from St. Christopher’s Catholic School and Bremman High School in Midlothian, IL.
Mr. Steward was employed by Grumman Aerospace in Stuart, FL from 1981 where he was their air conditioner/ maintenance tech and also worked with planes. Mr. Steward also worked for Rinker as a driver and did their A/C refrigeration work, in addition to working for Holiday Inn Oceanside. Prior to that, he worked for Mobile Oil and Chemical Company in Frankfurt, IL, as well as Superior Dental and Surgical Manufacturing Company in Blue Island, IL and Bower Buick for many years.
After retirement, Mr. Steward worked at Martin County Sportman's Association in Stuart, FL as a chief range officer, a job he truly loved. He loved airplanes, cars and shooting his bow at the range, and was a member of the NRA. Mr. Steward also loved photography, activities with his church, but mostly loved spending time with his family.
Mr. Steward was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and proudly served our country during two tours in the Vietnam War where he served from 1963-1967 in the 2nd Mar Div. 6th Marines. Mr. Steward was in the Marine Corp for 8 years, and he received several medals for his loyal duty. He received the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with 2 stars, the Navy Unit commendation Medal, Rifle Expert and Sharpshooter Medal. He was a member of the American Legion in both Tinley Park IL, Post 615 and here Post 318 and Post 400, along with AMAC.
Mr. Steward was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Stuart, FL where he served as an usher for many years.
He is survived by his daughters, Tamera (Bill) Steward-Burdette of Stuart, FL; Laura (Tim) Gift of Fort Pierce, FL; Donna (David) Holmes of Fort Pierce, FL; Frances (Bill) Schurer of Port St. Lucie, FL; brother, Ira Wayne (Gerry) Genovese of Illinois; sister, Carla T. Lawson of Virginia; his loving grandchildren, and great grandchildren; his former wife and friend, Carolyn E. Werner Marion of Port St. Lucie, FL and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased in death by his parents, Ernest and Shirley Genovese and wife and love, Bonnie in 2003.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 5:00-7:00PM at Aycock Funeral Home, 505 South Federal Highway in Stuart. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 30th at 10:30AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Stuart with interment to follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Palm City, Florida.
