Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, Charles had previously lived in Akron, Ohio before moving to the Stuart area 19 years ago.
Charles practiced law for 30 years. He was also a Professor of Law at the University of Akron in Ohio for 13 years.
Charles is survived by his wife of 50 years, Diane of Stuart, Florida; son, Brian Kirkwood and his wife Cheryl of Stuart, Florida; son, Scott Kirkwood of Birmingham, England; daughter, Erin Kirkwood Sillanpaa and her husband Marko of Stuart, Florida, and three granddaughters, Alexandra, Lacey and Penny.
Services will be private.
