Mary Susan Dillon

Mary Susan Dillon, 68, a life-long resident of Haverstraw, NY, passed from this life on October 13, 2015 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. She was predeceased by parents Olga Smereka Dillon Mathews and John P. Dillon. Mary had her BA degree from Hunter College and her Masters in Special Education from St. Thomas Aquinas College. Her life was dedicated to helping special needs children and adults through her employment with NYS Department of Mental Health first at Letchworth Village and then at Goshen, several group homes, tutoring, and volunteer work. Always full of energy and an idea, she was a newspaper deliverer for Publishers Circulation Fulfillment for 15 years.She is survived by and will be sorely missed by her son Douglas of Haverstraw, NY, her sisters Ann Dillon Tannous (Alan) of Glen Rock, NJ and Dr. Sharon Dillon-Mastafiak (David) of Clayton, NC, brother Dr. Thomas Mathews (Adriana) of Lees Summit, MO, her aunt Helen Smereka, nieces Caitlin and Christine Mastafiak, Helen Mathews and Catherine Mathews Rupp, nephew Andrew Mathews, cousins Robert Dillon, Martha Matechak Selivan, Olga Zacharkiw Garey, Stephen Zacharkiw, and her cat Johnny Boy.Friends may call Wednesday, November 11th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Higgins Funeral Home Stony Point, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered Thursday, November 12th, 10am at St. Peter's Church Haverstraw, NY. A private cremation will follow.
