Frederick “Fred” J. Bohlander, 78, of Stony Point, NY, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family and friends on October 19, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. Fred is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” of 54 years, their daughters Jeannette Kadin, Donna (Gary) Bright, and Christine (Michael) Hennigan; seven grandchildren: Samantha Kadin, Andrea Kadin, Jesse Bright, Julie Bright, Michelle Bright, Paige Hennigan and Brooke Hennigan; brother Thomas (Cindy) Bohlander, sisters Carolyn Laux, Joan Szanto, Dale Fitzgerald and Diane (Michael) Picarello; brother-in-law C. Joseph Pitt, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Fred had many jobs in his lifetime. His career began as an assistant to his father, Fritz, as a milkman. He was a driver for many companies including Gurran Oil, LJ Kennedy, UPS, and most importantly, Haverstraw Transit, as a school bus driver where he met the love of his life, Betty. He was employed by the Town of Stony Point Highway Department and then became Manager of Mountain View Mobile Home Park (MHP). He was a proud owner of the Leisure Village MHP in Delhi, NY. He was a key broker for mobile home sales in the Rockland, Orange, Sullivan and Delaware Counties in NY. Fred was an active member in the Stony Point community. He joined Wayne Hose Co. #1 in Stony Point in 1964 and was a Life Member. He served as Second Lieutenant in 1971, Commissioner from 1976-1998, Corresponding Secretary in 1982, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners from 1983-1984, served on numerous committees over his 54 years and was currently on the Board of Directors. Fred was a Life Member of the Rockland County Volunteer Fireman’s Association (VFA), Hudson Valley VFA, and a Member and Vice Chairman of the Rockland County Volunteer Fire District. Fred was a Town Councilman in the Town of Stony Point from 1984-1994, and a Town of Stony Point Police Commissioner for a short period of time. He was a member of the Haverstraw Elks Lodge #877, a member of the American Legion Post 1379 in Stamford, NY and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Stony Point, NY. Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 22nd, and Friday, October 23rd from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the Stony Point Fire Station No.2 on Central Highway and Route 210 in Stony Point, NY. Services will be held on Saturday, 11am, at the Firehouse followed by a private cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Fred J. Bohlander to Wayne Hose Company No.1, Stony Point, NY or United Hospice of Rockland.
