March 15, 1928 - June 26, 2014
It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Bill in his home with wife, Edith, and son, Floyd, by his side.
William (Bill) was the youngest son born to Henry and Amelia Weitzel on March 15, 1928 at Castor, Alberta. He attended school at White Whale, Mewassin, Glory Hills, Warden, Spruce Grove and Stony Plain. From 1945 to 1953 after leaving school, he was employed in the trucking business. Bill worked at the coal mine at Coal Valley and Mountain Park, hauled gravel and black top for construction
companies all over Alberta. He also hauled water, oil and oil field equipment in the oil fields. On July 25, 1952 he married Edith Steffler of Spruce Grove. The first year of their marriage they lived in a trailer in a farmer’s field beside an oil derrick, where ever he was working. Bill hauled water to an oil rig at Ferintosh and then Kingman. In the spring of 1953, Bill and Edith moved to his father’s farm one and a half miles west of Spruce Grove on Highway 16A. They farmed there until September 29th, 2008, and then retired to their next home in Stony Plain.
He leaves to mourn his devoted wife of 62 years, Edith, his son, Floyd (Connie), grandchildren Natascha (Lyndsey) Kvatum, Peter (Nadine) and Jesse, great grandchild, Amelia Weitzel, his brother, George, sister, Elizabeth (Betty Casey), and many more cherished family and friends.
Bill is predeceased by his son, Charles (1971), and daughter, Michele (2011). Also by his father Henry, mother Amelia, brother John, sister Ester, sister-in-law Pauline Weitzel, and brother-in-law Jim Casey.
Funeral Service will be held at the Stony Plain Hope Christian Reformed Church on Friday, July 4th, 2014 at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Stony Plain Hope Christian Reformed Church Cemetery Fund or a charity of one’s own choice would be appreciated.
Special thank you to friend Barb Hamilton, RCMP Cst. Jeff Czarnecki, the Parkland Ambulance, and the Stony Plain Fire Dept.
