1941 – 2024
It is with saddened hearts that the family of Ronald Schlecker announce his passing.
Ronald will be forever missed by his wife of 58 years, Alena, and his daughters Dawn, Shannon (Mark), and Cheryl (Natalie). Also left to carry on his memory are his five grandchildren Christine, Michaella, Bryan, Lucas, and Tristyn; his great-grandchild Josephine (or as Papa fondly called her, “Tootsie”); his brothers Randolph and Donald; as well as numerous family members and friends.
Ronald was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Jean, son Brian, brother Dennis, granddaughter Danielle and his son-in-law Bernie.
Ronald lived his entire life just a few miles south of Stony Plain. First at his parents’ farm, the Home Place, and then, for the past 51 years, at the farm where he and Alena raised their family and continued to share until his passing. Many often commented that Ronald and Alena have the prettiest little farm, and they do. When the weather was nice, Ronald and Alena could often be found sitting under the old willow trees at the side of their house. Their own private park. Ronald was a talented farmer who, even after he retired, continued to grow a variety of plants just to see if he could. He was also well known as a gifted mechanic and earned his Doctor of Motors in March 1961.
There will be a Graveside service to honour Ronald on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 11AM at Inga Cemetery, Secondary Hwy 627, Carvel, Alberta T0C 2P0
Reception will follow at the Stony Plain and Parkland Pioneer Museum in “The Founders” Room, 5120 – 41 Avenue, Stony Plain, Alberta T7Z 1L5
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Misericordia Community Hospital – Covenant Foundation for the Palliative Care Unit (covenantfoundation.ca, click on “gift in memory”, then “donate now”, and write in “on behalf of Ronald Schlecker for Palliative Care”). Currently, there are only 110 palliative beds available for Edmonton and area. That is a population size of over 1.5 million people. Sadly, a palliative bed could not be located for Ronald in time to provide him with better comfort care. We need to do better.
