Robert James Nikish, also known as Bob, passed away at his home in Stony Plain on April 28th, 2023, at the age of 68. Bob was born on July 23rd, 1954, in Mossbank, Saskatchewan to Vincent and Yvonne Nikish. He spent most of his childhood in Gravelbourg, SK, and later lived in Eastend, SK, for his final two years of high school.
Bob was a devoted husband to Melody, his wife of 41 years, and a loving father to his two sons, Jason, and Dexter. Bob was also fortunate to have gained two wonderful daughters-in-law, Sue, and Rietta, who were cherished members of his family. He was especially proud of his five grandchildren, Katelyn, Rylan, Lilyan, Henry, and Samuel, and treasured the time he spent with them.
In addition to his immediate family, Bob is also survived by his sisters, Frances and Marilyn, and several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his siblings Lucien and Linda.
Bob proudly served in the Navy for about three years before starting his profession as a carpenter with Binder Construction. It was there that he built his career and many abiding friendships over his sixteen-year tenure with the company. Later, Bob and Melody established Genevieve Contractors Ltd. which they successfully operated for seventeen years.
Outside of work and family, Bob enjoyed cooking, gardening, golfing, and spending time with loved ones at the lake. He was generous, steadfast, and reliable, always willing to lend a helping hand and offer his support to those who needed it, yet he was humble and never sought recognition for his acts of kindness. Bob had a natural gift for lifting the spirits of those around him. He was a notorious jokester and tease and was known for his clever nicknames, which often stuck with people for years. His infectious laughter and quick wit will be fondly remembered.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023, at 2 pm at the Blueberry Community Hall, 53109 RR 15, AB T7Z 2E4. Following the service, there will be a late lunch (Bob Nikish style) of pulled pork and all the fixings.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the University of Alberta Lung Transplant Program, 3-125 Clinical Sciences Building, 8440-112 Street, Edmonton AB, T6G 2B7.
Bob will be remembered for his kind heart, his generosity, and his unwavering love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
