It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Norman Tattersall of the Stony Plain, AB area on January 4, 2012 at the age of 70 years.
John passed away at home in the loving arms of Betty, his teenage sweetheart whose relationship was rekindled after many years, and with his sister Florence at his side.
He will be sadly missed and always remembered by his sweetheart, Betty Bowman; his son Leonard (Tammy) Blair of Sylvan Lake; stepchildren: Janice (Keith) of Edmonton, Karen (Todd) of Vermillion, Kevin (Carrie) of Red Deer and their families; grandson Zachary and great-granddaughter Autumn; granddaughter Amanda (Adam)and great-grandchildren: Tyson and Kaitlyn as well as grandson Nathan. John is also survived by his sister Florence (Frank) Gannon of Vermillion; nieces: Laura (Nick), Virginia and nephew Derrick (Brigitte); great- nieces: Chelsea, Kayla, Wanda, Amber as well as great-nephews Christopher and Bryan.
John was predeceased by his father (John) in August 1991 and his mother (Ruby) in February 2000, both from Vermillion, Alberta.
John was born in Islay, AB then attended Lavada School in the district of Kitscoty. He bought his first truck at a young age and drove this one truck for over 2,000,000 miles. John then had numerous Kenworth and Peterbuilt trucks during his driving career. Over the years, he was named "Trucker of the Month" in the Overdrive Truckers Magazine, received the CFCW "Trucker of the Day" award as well as the "Dayton National Truck Hero Award". John and his trucks were known as "MAGICIAN". He continued trucking for many years on many different routes in Western Canada, Northern Canada including the "Ice Roads" and into the USA. John was always able to repair or restore most anything on his trucks and was noted for always having one of the cleanest trucks both inside and out. He retired in the 1990's but later continued driving part time for others up to the middle of 2006. At the time of his passing, John and Betty were involved in building a campsite doing all of the work themselves. John put up a courageous and brave front in the battle with Cancer. He will be missed by all.
