George was born to Martha and Jacob Schoepp near Stony Plain, Alberta. He was a spirited child who was quick, strong and busy. George was a beloved brother to Shirley (Del), Marjorie (Bill), Gerald (Carol) and Duncan (Ruth) and he greatly enjoyed family gatherings. As a very young man he worked ‘in the bush’ building roads in Western Alberta. He came back to the farm and his home church in his 20’s and in 1958 he married Hilda Beiersdorfer. Together they had four children, Brenda, David, James (Anne) and Joanne (Russell).
George was a dedicated servant to his church, industry and community and was recognized as such. His love was children and he was especially thrilled to welcome ten grandchildren: Amie, Benjamin, Selim, Stephan, Anders, Aline, Elsa, Nicholas, Emily and Katie. George and Hilda faithfully attended many of the events in the lives of their grandchildren and George was called upon more than once to help with the ties of the young men. To complete his legacy ten great grandchildren: Jenna, Dana, Laura, Tessa, Elizabeth, Philip, Olivier, Amelia, Finnley and Klara were welcomed and often visitors in George and Hilda’s home.
Over the years, George and Hilda were hosts to hundreds of friends, neighbors and strangers and the farm kitchen was always busy. And though we all share different memories, it is there – around that ever expanding kitchen table that many will find their fondest recollections of visiting with George. Helpful and generous, he remained dedicated to his family, his community, neighbors and friends and steadfast in his faith every moment of his life.
George was predeceased by his mother Martha Schoepp, father Jacob Schoepp, brother Gerald Schoepp, sister-in-law Carol Schoepp, brother-in-law Dave Beiersdorfer, brother-in-law Howard Sutherland, nephew Jason Schoepp, niece Debora Beiersdorfer and niece baby Trina Fenske.
George walked in faith and was anchored in old fashioned values. Married for 62 years he lived a life of commitment and gratitude. He is forever our farmer and gentleman.
If friends desire, Memorial Donations may be made in George’s memory to either St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 5021 – 52 Avenue, Stony Plain, AB T7Z 1C1 or to a Charity of One’s Choice.
