She grew up on the family farm with her siblings where they worked together sharing the various farm tasks. She was diligent and had an amazing determination at pursuing her own goals, one of which was to become a teacher.
Her home was a place where God was honored, the Bible was read and believed, and Sunday School and Church were attended regularly. When she was a young adult she came to a personal faith in Jesus Christ and upon confession of that faith she was baptized and received into the membership of the Mennonite Brethren Church which was in the community where they lived, northwest of Meadow Lake, SK.
Beth received her elementary education attending Champion School at Compass, SK. She took her high school by correspondence and attended the German-English Academy in Rosthern, SK, now known as Rosthern Junior College. Since there was a shortage of teachers in the province at that time, the government provided a six week teacher training course. Beth took advantage of this opportunity and thus began her teaching career. She taught in the Meadow Lake School Division for several years attending the University of SK during the summers taking classes toward her permanent certificate. Later she attended the U of S full time and acquired a B. ED as well as B. of Home Economics degree. During the summers she accepted positions in Northern Canada teaching school to children who had been with their parents on the trap lines during the winter. Sometimes a tent became the classroom. She was sent to northern villages on the Mackenzie River and the Hudson Bay.
On June 27, 1968 Elizabeth and John Louis Armbruster were married in Yellowknife, NWT. They made their home in Stony Plain, AB. There they worked together at John’s business, Armbruster Lumber until their retirement. Beth and John loved to travel and they visited a number of different countries. They were faithful members at St. Matthews Lutheran Church and served faithfully.
Beth loved her gardens. She always had a huge vegetable garden that was overflowing with produce and she shared them with family and friends often. Her flower/perennial garden was full of beautiful plants and flowers and her fruit trees and bushes always had an ample supply. Beth also belonged to the Stony Plain Horticultural Society and enjoyed the flowers that she grew. She won numerous ribbons for her flowers, fruit and vegetables and she also served as a judge for the society at their shows. Another of her loves was her bantam chickens which she pampered and cared for well. If you went to visit Beth you would often go home with a dozen or two of those little multicolored eggs.
Once Beth could no longer live in her house, she spent two months living with her nephew Jim and Dary Skinner and then moved into Rutherford Heights Retirement Residence where she was able to meet new people and enjoy the activities and food.
Elizabeth is predeceased by her loving husband, John; her parents, Jacob and Anna Zacharias;
Brothers Henry, Jacob and Andrew; sisters Eva Neudorf and Anna Boyes.
She is survived by sisters Bertha Skinner, Lydia Peters, sister-in-law Tina Zacharias, and numerous nieces and nephews.
