Doug was the first born of three sons to Thomas (Sept 23, 1908 – May 11, 1967) and Dorothy Laurie (December 21, 1909 – October 17, 2003) from Edmonton. Doug will be long remembered as a “shaker and a mover” for Stony Plain and its heritage. From the day he moved into the community, he was involved in one way or another right up until his final days.
Doug will be remembered by his loving wife of 45 years, Liz, and his daughter Toni (Mike) Van Steenbergen, and his only grandson Bryson Douglas. Bryson was entertained for hours by Grandpa who came up with a myriad of games and activities. Grandpa built a “boys only” hut on the farm for his grandson and bought him his first 2 wheeler bike. Priceless treasures, treasured memories.
Doug was predeceased by his daughter Dodie Laurie (July 11, 1993). Dodie softened her Dad like no other. She had a magical impact on her daddy. He would do anything for her without ever the smallest of complaints.
Doug is survived by two brothers Ken (Donna) Laurie and Gord (Vicki) Laurie as well as many nieces and nephews. Doug has many special cousins, nieces and nephews who all would have a “special” story to share about Uncle Doug. He will be remembered and missed by countless friends.
It is with much love we remember.
You will never be forgotten Douglas A. Laurie!
