It is with great sadness that the family of Cliff Buckland announces his passing on January 12, 2024 at the age of 80 years.
He will be forever loved and remembered by his beloved wife, Jeanne, of 55 years; two daughters, Kim (Peter) and Laurie (Chad); and four grandchildren, Rachel, Kelsey, Abbey and Brady. Also left to miss him dearly are five sisters, Janet (Richard), Barbara (Gordon), Gail (Jack), Audrey, and Debbie (Garry). Cliff was predeceased by his loving parents, Edward (Doug) and Anna.
Cliff was born on June 16, 1943 in Trochu, Alberta and grew up on the family farm near Lousana. Two years after graduation, he joined the TD Bank and worked his way up the ranks from Teller to Manager until his retirement in 1999 (36 years total). With a natural talent for organization and attention to detail, his career suited him well. Working with the bank took him to many different communities in Alberta, including Calgary, Coronation, High Prairie, Grand Centre, Cardston, Lethbridge, St. Paul, Vilna, Sherwood Park, Vegreville, and Barrhead. It was in High Prairie that he met his future wife, Jeanne, and they married in 1968.
There were a variety of activities Cliff enjoyed throughout his life: 4H, baseball, golfing, bowling, snowmobiling, camping, card-playing, attending rodeos, listening to country music and reading. Significant contributions to his community were made through volunteer work with Rotary, Kinsmen and Lions clubs. He encouraged his children’s faith lives and regularly accompanied the family to church. Cliff’s life was built on hard work, reliability, doing the right thing and, of course, always being ready for a good chuckle—qualities passed down from his good-natured and down-to-earth parents. Despite being a man of few words, those fortunate enough to know Cliff recognized his deep care for family and friends, as he always went out of his way to assist and support those around him.
A memorial service with live-streaming will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 29, 2024 at Parkland Funeral Services, 3502 44 Ave, in Stony Plain. Luncheon and fellowship to follow at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Hall in Spruce Grove, at 200 Boundary Road.
The family expresses their gratitude for your prayers. If desired, memorial donations may be made in Cliff’s honour to the Alberta Lung Association or a charity of your choice.
