Beloved wife of Gerald Taylor (Gerry) Spruce Grove Alberta, formerly of Labrador City, passed away on July 8, 2022 after a courageous 14 year journey with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 77.
Carol was the oldest daughter of Frank and Mary Dyke of St John’s NF.
She left the island of Newfoundland at 22 years old to move to Labrador City, a new mining community being built in the wilds of western Labrador. It was here that she raised her family, had the most cherished memories and made life long friends.
Carol will forever be remembered as creative, caring, hardworking. She would bring those qualities to all that she touched. She loved spending time in her garden and of course at the mall; she was forever searching for a great deal. She loved to shop and even made it her profession for a period of time at Vogue Boutique in Labrador City.
Her biggest joy was her family. Her perseverance and character is evident in lives of her children and her grandchildren. She would be very proud of the brood she started. Especially her grandchildren Taylor Pocock, Nicolas Preston, Brynna, Eamon and Tristan Foley, and Gillian and Egan Woolfrey.
Carol was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Mary Dyke.
She is survived by her husband Gerald with whom she would have celebrated 61 years together in August.
She will be forever missed by her daughters Sandra Taylor, Catherine Taylor (Colin), Rosalind Woolfrey (Edward), Adam Taylor, As well as her extended family Rosalind Kendall (Edward), Sharon Norman (David), Frank Dyke (Karen), Joan Zinn (Don).
Thanks to all our special friends who have been on this journey with us as a family… special thanks to Lise Lessard for her continued support and steadfast friendship with Carol over the last 50 years. A sincere thank you to Youville Home, Unit 4 staff, for your kindness and compassion while Carol was in your care.
A celebration of Carol’s life will be held in Alberta and Newfoundland at a later date.
