It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lidy Hoogendoorn, our much loved daughter, wife, sister, mother and oma on December 11, 2024 at the age of 72 years.
Lidy was born in Kijfhoek, Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands to Piet and Jenny Hoogenboom. She was the eldest of 9 siblings. At 17, Lidy left home to pursue a career in nursing. Later in her nursing career, she specialized in working with the elderly. At 22, Lidy married the great love of her life, Victor, who was her childhood neighbour, friend and sweetheart. Along with Victor's brothers, they dairy farmed in the town of Helenaveen. In 1987, Lidy and Vic along with their 4 children, Jenneke, Wieteke, Pieter-Jan and Yeka, immigrated to Stony Plain, Alberta.
Lidy was always very involved with all the many interests her children pursued: whether she was sewing figure skating dresses, washing horse blankets, or driving to hockey and gymnastics, she did all this happily while also supporting Victor with the family dairy farm. Lidy was an avid member of Hope Christian Reform church where she enjoyed serving others through volunteering with the nursery, worship music, coffee/tea service and Vacation Bible School, just to name a few. Vic and Lidy's home was always bustling with people and neighbours as family. If someone needed a place to rest their head, she was on it. Lidy loved to sit and chat and wanted to know all the details and gave her two cents when she saw fit. Her love of flowers, plants and everything nature is evident as you walk through her beautiful home.
Lidy is survived by her mother, Jenny Hoogenboom, devoted husband, Victor, and her children: Jenneke (Jim), Wieteke (Jonny), Pieter-Jan (Krystle), and Yeka (Mike). She loved all children and was a proud Oma to 12 + 1 grandchildren Noah, Jacob, Autumn, Aiden, Julia, Zachary, Grace, Paisley, Adalynn, Wyatt, Sasha, Brody, and Jordynn. Also missing her are Lidy's siblings Jenneke, Mels, Liesbeth, Joop, Leo, Ard, Marco and their partners, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, Piet Hoogenboom, in-laws Jan and Wies Hoogendoorn and brother Peter Hoogenboom.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Saints Church Glory Hills in Stony Plain, Alberta, where she will also be laid to rest at 10:00 am in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
