William (Bill) Andrew Sinnott, age 79, died Monday, August 29, at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, DC. Bill was born on August 20, 1932 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, the son of Andrew William and Helen Thomas Sinnott.
Bill enlisted in the US Air Force at the age of 16, and spent the majority of his time in the Strategic Air Command as an air refueler. He also served in the Vietnam War. An avid wrestler in his early years, Bill was an alternate on the US Olympic Wrestling team in 1952. Bill retired from the Air Force in 1972 with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He then worked for Georgia Power where he designed security systems for nuclear power plants, and farmed in Vidalia, Georgia. He retired again, moved to Atlanta, and later moved to the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, DC.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jeannette Wilder and grandson Shane M. Sinnott. He is survived by his son David W. Sinnott (Nancy L. Sinnott) of Stafford, Virginia; daughter Nancy J. Parker (John Parker) of Tucker, Georgia; grandsons Andrew C. Vickers (Michelle Hughes Vickers) of Holly Springs, Georgia, and Adam D. Sinnott of Stafford, Virginia; great-grandson Aiden C. Vickers; and half-brothers Joseph Sinnott, Fr. Andrew Sinnott, Myles Sinnott, Gary Sinnott, and Kevin Sinnott.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 12 at 11:00 at Mountain Park United Methodist Church, Stone Mountain, Georgia. The family will receive visitors at 10:00 at the church. Arrangements are being provided by Horis A. Ward Stone Mountain Chapel (horisawardstonemountainchapel.com). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Bill Sinnott either to the Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org) or the Care Ministries at Mountain Park United Methodist Church.
